50 Flinders Street
The re-development of the site at 50 Flinders Street delivers a new commercial office and retail building that activates the precinct, positively responds to the site context, and provides a high level of internal and external amenity to the local workforce community.
JPE Design Studio and the entire design and construction team adopted BIM (Building Information Modelling) for the project, utilising Revit as the primary documentation tool.
During design development and documentation, BIM allowed us to utilise tools such as point-cloud technology and clash detection, all made possible by the exchange of 3D Revit models across all disciplines.
Analysis of the existing site conditions, safety in design issues, co-ordination and constructability could all be analysed and tested before on-site work commenced.
The contractors use of BIM to time lapse the model to inform sequencing and programming gave them the ability to accurately create off-site pre-fabricated building systems during the construction phases. The BIM ‘as built’ models also provide the building owner and future consultants an accurate representation of the building for future work.
The collaboration and co-ordination of all the disciplines together with the modelling accuracy was vitally important, and was key to the success of this iconic project.
