Form simplicity and seamless connections to landscape
The design for this home derives from the client’s appreciation of the large trees on the site – providing shade in summer and forming a large dappled light canopy across the property. The main building volume fills the void created between the tree canopies while referencing the pitched roof vernacular of the local area. A raised boardwalk cuts this volume in two, creating a central spine that connects the external and internal spaces. Two courtyard spaces are integrated within the built form, one in each wing. These courtyards capture light and soften the internal spaces, reinforcing the buildings connection and respect for the landscape.
