Cedar House

Cedar house is a generously sized new home built on the site of our client’s existing Unley Park block. It includes a subterranean carpark and cellar, 4 bedrooms, a large open plan kitchen, living and dining space, private study and mezzanine reading room. The design was inspired by our client’s desire for a modern, contemporary home which seamless connections to the landscape. The home design derives from the client’s appreciation of the large trees on the site – providing shade in summer and forming a large dappled light canopy across the property.

The main building volume fills the void created between the tree canopies while referencing the pitched roof vernacular of the local area. A raised boardwalk cuts this volume in two, creating a central spine that connects the external and internal spaces. Two courtyard spaces are integrated within the built form, one in each wing. These courtyards capture light and soften the internal spaces, reinforcing the buildings connection and respect for the landscape. The interior designer for this project was done by Emma Jane Interiors.
