Playford City Tennis Centre
A dynamic focal point for tennis and the community
The Playford City Tennis Centre is a state-of-the-art facility in South Australia featuring 16 standard courts and 8 hot shot courts designed to Tennis Australia’s standards and suitable for international tournaments.
The centrally located clubhouse sits on an elevated plinth providing magnificent views to all courts, and comprises of three simple building forms, each with their own identity and materiality.
The glazed open-plan club room provides a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces and connects with an expressed concrete, centrally located administration and kiosk space. The change rooms, amenities and medical rooms occupy the third form - a simple black box with plywood lining, and silvery fixings that shimmer in the tennis court lighting.
The design response is minimal in its use of materials and form - providing a robust and timeless quality to the facility, along with maximum flexibility of use. The tapered feature ceiling opens up towards the courts - creating a dynamic focal point to the sports activity beyond.
Despite project challenges, this project was delivered on time and within budget.
