Preschool Nature Play Demonstration Sites
Connecting and re-connecting with the natural environment is the core of the nature play philosophy.
In 2014, JPE Design Studio was engaged to design nature play outdoor learning areas for five sites around South Australia as part of the State Government’s commitment to re-connecting children, their families and the local communities with nature.
The diverse mix of demonstration sites included Melaleuca Park Mount Gambier, Campbelltown Preschool, Wandana Parent Children Centre Gilles Plains, Sturt Street Children’s Centre Adelaide and Madge Sexton Kindergarten McLaren Vale.
Detailed fine grain interventions enabled each site to build on its unique sense of place and the framework of nature based play areas provided opportunities for children’s imagination to flourish - enabling a sense of awe and wonder.
Each of these sites has provided new play-based learning opportunities, and as demonstration sites, offer ideas to other schools and the broader community for ways they too can connect with nature.
After the success of the first 5 projects, we are delighted to have also been awarded another five Nature Play based outdoor learning sites, currently in the documentation phase, and are expecting construction to begin April next year, 2016.
