History
JPE traces it beginning back to 1851. It is the oldest continuing architectural practice in South Australia.
Significant historical projects include the Prince Alfred College, numerous historic churches and hotels throughout South Australia, Adelaide Railway Station, Charles Moore Building on Victoria Square (now the Sir Samuel Way Law Courts), St Peters College and Hotel Australia (now Place on Brougham).
We continue to value this heritage, with its tradition of quality design and long-term client relationships. Our team of over 25 professional staff include talented and energetic designers who have been responsible for various high profile and award-winning design commissions.
The Studio
The JPE studio is located in the 'Wave' office tower situated on the corner of Gilles and King William streets. The studio is a mix of work station clusters, spaces for creation, walls for interaction, quiet pockets for contemplation, and a gallery for inspiration.
We believe in an open work environment with design critique sessions on projects to tease out the best ideas to present to clients. We actively promote our specialist skills and focus on quality design. Integral to our office environment is an ongoing program of professional development with staff having broad skills in office procedures, project based software and CAD documentation.
Design Culture
At JPE we believe in design leadership and a collaborative approach to problem solving. We are committed to seeking unique solutions and giving each project an identity and life. Quality, culture, context and environmental design issues drive our staff and all aspects of our project delivery.
Sustainability
JPE Design Studio is committed to designing and delivering sustainable outcomes from project inception to completion and beyond. Our key personnel are skilled in the delivery of these initiatives, and carry a passion for the implementation of innovative sustainable solutions. Our work has been recognised with specific awards for Sustainable Architecture, and we have achieved a 5 Star Green Star Rating for the recently completed Edge Commercial Office Development.
Collaboration
A strong ethos of idea sharing between all staff members throughout the life of our projects ensures that the diverse and extensive experience of the team is reflected.
Consultation
Developing an understanding of the needs of diverse stakeholder groups is integral to the success of our projects. With strong consultative experience, JPE Design Studio can manage shared and disparate group needs into the delivery of exemplary design outcomes.
Through a series of stakeholder workshops we develop graphic panels of words and images which interpret the Client’s values, experience and aspirations. Through this process an ‘emotional brief’ is developed which complements the ‘functional brief’ and provides a common, intellectual framework of communication through the design stage of each project.
Research
The JPE team brings together a wealth of research based knowledge across a range of project types, including Commercial & Commercial Interiors, Education & Research, Community Facilities, Residential, Hospitality, Health, Masterplanning, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture.
A deeper understanding of best practice design by way of national and international case studies ensures that our projects deliver innovative outcomes.
