260 Halifax Street
Set between the mixed use character of Halifax Street, and the lower scale heritage context of McLaren Street, this site required a considered and sensitive design response. Comprising of seven boutique apartments fronting Halifax, and three townhouses to McLaren Street, our design responds to the built form evolution of this precinct, with materiality, form and expression derived from the early residences and industrial aesthetic that developed in the area.
The result is a fusion between the domestic vernacular of the early cottages and townhouses, and the robust elegance of the warehouses that emerged in the 1940s and 50s. Brickwork detailing and concrete banding add to the sense of context and scale reference, fenestration and balcony proportions play with volume and rhythm.
