Mary MacKillop College Kensington, Tenison Centre
The new Tenison Centre for Mary MacKillop College creates a new addition to the school campus and historic High Street in Kensington, reflecting the College’s approach to modern pedagogy and creating a vibrant frontage to the campus interface and a visually sensitive approach to the adjoining residences. Diverse teaching methods, spirituality of place and a focus on the student experience led the design brief. Designed to enhance creative pursuits and support opportunities for students in STEAM based learning, the Tenison Centre offers flexible environments including specialist science laboratories, art and design studios, breakout spaces and landscaped courtyards for student wellbeing.
The outdoor spaces in between the new build and the existing offer connection and interaction with nature as well as direct and indirect opportunity for outdoor learning. Utilising a consultative approach with students, staff and the school board, our team developed a responsive outcome that considers contemporary education whist remaining true to the established values, history and traditions of May MacKillop College.
