Wigley Reserve Playspace & Fitness Hub
The City of Holdfast Bay engaged JPE Design Studio’s assistance in the upgrade and development of a concept design for a prominent and valued reserve within Glenelg North, Wigley Reserve. This design builds upon an existing all abilities focused playspace and fitness hub, but creates a fresh and vibrant play opportunity more integrated within the Wigley Reserve as a whole. The Wigley Reserve design draws inspiration from the gentle sweeping and mounding dunes which once inhabited the Patawalonga estuary region.
As a regional playspace, the need to provide an exciting, engaging and inclusive environment was paramount to the design. With a particular focus on inclusivity and sensory elements, the playspace offers a spectrum of play opportunities from large scale climbing structures to immersive nature spaces. The dramatic shade structure and climbing tunnel work together as the cornerstone of the new Wigley Reserve playspace. An architectural feature that acts as a beacon for the site; the custom shade structure drapes and folds to reveal waterfront views and invites the community in to the space.
